About the songs: "LOVE" i wrote this for my 3 year old nephew, Lance, and my 1 year old niece, Camille. it's about giving them unconditional love. it is also about the "loss of love". everybody wants to be right. but being "right" all the time gets you nowhere. everybody needs to compromise a little. "Everybody Feels The Same" i wrote this a few years ago. my girlfriend at the time called me from work and told me that her good friend was very depressed. She was worried about him. After we hung up i began writing the song. the first verse and chorus came right away. i called her back and sang it to her. she liked it. the rest of the song took another 8 months to finish. her friend is much happier now. (there is no connection between his happiness and my song... i don't think) "Smoke" this song took nearly two years to complete. it began as a very literal account of a vertigo spell that i had a few days earlier. over time it evolved into a song about doubt. and how persistent self-doubt can nearly make you lose your mind. "Where the waves begin" a love song. "the black will turn to blue" this song is pretty self-explanatory. the lyric came to me after receiving a black eye. i was hit in the face with an elbow while playing basketball. my eye went from black to blue to yellow to where it is now. it also was a reference to the color of the sky during the passing of a thunderstorm. i wrote it a few weeks after i broke up with a girlfriend. it was a desperate attempt to get her back. it didn't work as well as i had hoped. "a perfect rose" this song was agony for me to finish. at one point the song had a completely different set of lyrics, from top to bottom. it wasn't until after mix down that i decided that i hated the lyrics. so i rewrote them and it became "a perfect rose". the song is about being so afraid of not reaching perfection that you go nowhere. it was pretty ironic because this song was holding up my album's release date. perfection is impossible. what's important is that you start. that's what the seed refers to. "faith" after a close friend and i had a heated argument about religion and faith we didn't speak for a few weeks. both of us felt misunderstood and angry. as time passed i realized that i cared for her and wanted to be there for her, regardless of her views. "walls" thoughts on a failed relationship with "the one that got away." "cars crash" i wrote this song right after i found out that a friend of mine had just killed herself. the song is about her and about suicide, in general. "golden wing" this song is about a lot of different things. but the basic idea behind it is that sometimes your friends know you better than you know yourself. |
